🌈 Setting Intentional Goals with SMART Goals & Life Balance 🌈

Updated: Oct 26

Living with chronic illness means balancing our goals with our needs, setting intentions that feel both meaningful and doable. That’s why I’m excited to share new resources to help you set and reach goals with the support of SMART Goals and the Circle of Life framework!

Why SMART Goals?

SMART goals are designed to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, making them a powerful tool for setting goals that support your unique journey. Each component helps break down larger intentions into smaller, motivating steps—perfect for finding joy in the little wins and making meaningful progress.

Here’s a SMART Goals example for “Health”:

Specific: “I want to walk for 10 minutes, three times a week, to build gentle movement into my routine.”

Measurable: “I’ll track my walks on my calendar.”

Achievable: “10 minutes feels realistic with my current energy.”

Relevant: “Regular movement helps me feel more energized and grounded.”

Time-bound: “I’ll start this goal on Monday and check in weekly.”

This approach works for goals in any area of life, and if you ever need to adjust, SMART goals are easy to adapt!

Creating Your SMART Goal Journal Assignment 📒

As you explore setting your own SMART goals, here are some journal prompts to guide your reflections:

1. What is one area from the Circle of Life (Spirituality, Health, Relationships, etc.) where I’d like to focus my energy?

2. What small, specific goal can I set in this area that feels achievable and meaningful to me?

3. How will I measure my progress? Will I track it in a journal, on a calendar, or another way?

4. Why is this goal important to me right now? How will achieving it make me feel?

5. What is a reasonable timeframe for achieving this goal? What first step can I take today?
