🎧 In Pieces (Remastered) — For Mikey (Album Cover) Gala Violet

By Mickey Fingers • November 14, 2025

🕯️ In loving memory of Mikey Sherman

There are songs that are written.

And then there are songs that arrive.

“In Pieces” was one of those...

the kind that falls through trembling hands,

that won’t stop echoing once it lands.

Tea and I wrote it during the Gifts from the Sirens sessions, back when everything felt half‑finished and half‑alive, when we were still figuring out what we were even doing. Half a songbook, half therapy, half séance.

Three EPs stitched together from notebook fragments and late‑night Zooms.

It wasn’t meant for release. It was meant for survival.

But somewhere in the static, this one started breathing on its own.

💔 The Song

“In Pieces” isn’t just about loss.

It’s about the ache of loving someone you can’t save,

watching the light go out,

and realizing the only way to keep them is to keep feeling.

Tea wrote the lyrics like a conversation with her brother, Mikey,

each verse a page from a diary she never planned to show anyone.

You can feel that rawness in every line:

the mix of fury, forgiveness, and impossible love.

“I tried to break free…
She never loosened her grip.”

It’s a story too many of us know too well.

Addiction turns people into ghosts before they’re gone.

But this song, this version of him,

still sings.

✨ The Remaster

When we went back to it this year,

we didn’t want to fix it,

we wanted to listen differently.

There’s more air now, more warmth.

The voice sits where it always should have been, centered, trembling, human.

Tea’s learning the craft like she’s always known it:

hearing frequencies most of us miss,

feeling where the ghosts hum in the mix.

This isn’t a redo.

It’s a resurrection.

🎨 The Cover

Tea designed the cover herself, a heart mended in gold,

cracked but never collapsed.

The feathers drift through it like the messages she still gets from him.

It’s kintsugi for the soul.

proof that love, even shattered,

can still reflect the light.

🕯️ Why Now

Because some anniversaries you don’t ignore.

Because grief doesn’t keep a calendar.

Because sometimes you need to speak the name again,

and let the song finish the sentence you couldn’t.

Nine years gone, and still here.

Still shining in pieces.

🎧 From the Radio Side

The single anchors this week’s

“In Pieces: Broken Things and Beautiful Hearts.”

It’s our way of turning pain into presence...

two hours of songs for anyone still carrying someone.

Because sometimes, the only thing left to do

is press play

and let the music hold you.

✨ About Mickey Fingers

Mickey Fingers is the co-creator of Velvet Umbrella Records and Gala Violet.

A multi-instrumentalist and engineer-producer, he moves between drums, guitar, bass, piano, and synth with ridiculous ease, building worlds inside Ableton Live.

Equal parts mystery and mischief, he’s a steady hand in the chaos and a spark in the shadows.

You’ll find him behind the curtain, buried in reel-to-reels and synth smoke.
